Los Angeles Chargers football player Najee Harris is dealing with an eye injury.
The running back sustained a superficial eye injury at a Fourth of July event due to a fireworks accident.
"Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season," said Doug Hendrickson, Harris' agent, in a statement.
Compared to others injured at the Fourth of July event, Harris' injury was minor.
Hendrickson said the mishap left several attendees injured. According to police, one person was hospitalized after losing fingers in the Antioch, California, accident, the San Francisco Chroniclereported.
Fourth of July firework accidents are all too common. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, an estimated 14,700 people were injured by fireworks in 2024. There were 11 reported firework-related deaths, and an estimate 1,700 emergency room treated injuries involving sparklers.
It's likely that Harris will miss the start of training camp, which begins July 17 for the Chargers.
The Chargers have not commented on Harris' incident.
Harris, 27, is entering his fifth year in the NFL. He signed a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million with the Chargers this offseason after spending his first four seasons with the Steelers.
During his time with the Steelers, he appeared in every regular season game, topping 1,000 rushing yards each year. He also earned a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie.
