summer transfer window remains the dominant talking point despite the new Premier League season being on the horizon.

United have made one new addition to their squad with the arrival of in a £62.5million deal from Wolves. Cunha has been given the No.10 shirt at United and will be a valuable option in the forward line for next term.

Brentford star continues to be a target for United this summer, with two bids already being rejected. United are also interested in bringing in a new centre forward this summer, with a host of names already being mentioned as potential targets.

There have been reports linking possible new signings for almost every area of the pitch for United this summer. Whether it be at goalkeeper, midfield or the forward line, there continues to be rumours of new additions being made to the squad at disposal.

One area of the team that could arguably be in need of reinforcements is at centre-back. United currently have Leny Yoro, Matthis de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven as the senior central defenders at the club.

Martinez will not return from a serious knee injury until later in the year, and the departures of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans mean United will currently go into the campaign with three centre-backs at their disposal. Luke Shaw has shown his ability to play in the middle of the defence, especially on the left side of a back-three deployed by Amorim.

But, when looking at the numbers available to start the campaign, it cannot be denied that United need at least one new signing to be a centre-back this summer. Who that player could be remains to be seen.

One player who could be worth a look at in the transfer market is Goncalo Inacio. The Sporting Lisbon star has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past, and, unsurprisingly, United, too, given the defender was previously coached by Amorim during his time in Portugal.

Inacio has a release clause in his contract worth €60million (£52million) which has been active since he signed a new contract back in 2023.

The centre-back has now entered the final two years of his deal with Sporting, which runs out in 2027, which could present an opportunity for United if they decide to go into the market for a new defender.
