It is increasingly likely that Liverpool will sell Ibrahima Konate this summer.

The defender’s future has become one of the major talking points of the summer transfer window as he stalls on agreeing to a new deal.

Liverpool have opened talks with the French defender, who has just one year left on his current deal.

However, the 26-year-old has reportedly rejected two proposals from the Reds.

Real Madrid are circling, and reports indicate that the Anfield hierarchy is growing increasingly anxious.

Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer, and the club are keen to avoid a repeat of that scenario with Konate.

Yesterday, reports from Spain revealed that Konate has decided not to renew his contract at Liverpool.

And now the update coming from Spain is that the Reds are seriously considering selling him.

According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER (via @Madrid Zone), the Reds are seriously considering selling him this summer if he keeps refusing to renew.

The report also revealed that the player only wants to join Real Madrid.

Incidentally, the Spanish press has not helped in cooling talks about a Konate move to Real Madrid, with a recent report from Spanish publication Marca claiming that Real Madrid have earmarked Konate as a prime target in their ongoing strategy of pursuing players in the final year of their contracts, much like they did with Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rüdiger, and David Alaba.

According to the report, Madrid’s scouting and sporting management have been “working on Konate for months,” preparing to launch negotiations in January 2026 when pre-contract discussions become permissible.

Another Spanish publication AS, also reported that Konate has decided not to renew his contract at Liverpool.

“Konaté, like Trent months ago, is putting Liverpool off extending his contract,” the report claimed.

“What’s more, according to reports from England and confirmed by AS, he isn’t considering renewing. He doesn’t consider it an option at this time. And Liverpool is aware of this.”

The report also corroborates the latest report by Cadena SER, as it indicated that Liverpool are now actively working on securing an exit for the defender this summer, in order not to lose the player for nothing.
