Everton have emerged as a potential suitor for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney as the Toffees look to strengthen their midfield this summer.
Hackney has starred for the Teesiders in the Championship in recent years.
Everton are understood to have checked on Hackney’s availability as they line up a potential move. However, they look set to face competition from a whole host of clubs, including the likes of West Ham, Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen.
David Moyes will be keen to bolster his midfield options following Abdoulaye Doucoure’s departure. As a result, Hackney has been identified as a potential signing.

‘Hackney to be attracted to Everton by Moyes’
Idrissa Gana Gueye’s recent contract extension has handed Everton a huge boost, and they could now be set to receive another if they can get a deal to sign Hackney over the line.
MORE TOFFEES STORIES
The midfielder has an extremely bright future ahead of him, and his ability is well-known to clubs in the Premier League and across Europe.
The Toffees are far from the only side that would jump at the chance to bring him in. However, they could potentially hold an important card in the race to sign the youngster.
Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that a move to Everton could appeal to Hackney, given Moyes‘ ability to help promising youngsters develop into stars.
“I’m sure a move to Everton appeals for Hackney,” King said.
“You’re not only looking at the club, but you’re also looking at the manager, too. This is a manager who helped Wayne Rooney develop into the player he became.
“He has a good eye for young players. Therefore, this would be a positive move for Hackney.”

Hackney would be a great signing for Everton
It has been suggested that Everton may be able to land Hackney for around £15million.
The 23-year-old has already established himself as one of the most influential midfielders in the Championship. His quality was on display again this summer at the Under-21 Euros.

Hackney featured in four of England’s six games at the tournament, as Lee Carsley’s side successfully defended their crown.
The Middlesbrough man clearly has a big future ahead of him, and Moyes could hold the key to Everton’s chances of bringing him in.
