Manchester United are due £5.5 million after Anthony Elanga completed his £55m move to Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. The Magpies will pay a guarantee £52m for the forward, with a further £3m in potential add-ons.
United included a sell-on clause when they allowed Elanga to join Nottingham Forest for £15 million two years ago. The 23-year-old was not viewed as a key figure by Erik ten Hag and was told he could find a new club as he searched for regular playing time. It turned out to be a very good move for the player. Elanga featured in every one of their Premier League matches last season, scoring six goals and notching 11 assists, as they finished seventh and secured qualification for the Conference League.
United never officially disclosed the specifics of the sell-on clause, but sources have confirmed it to be worth 15 percent of any profit made. That means United will take 15 percent of the remaining £37m fee when you subtract the £15m they spent on him two years ago.

Manchester United have aimed to become smarter with sales in recent years and have been prepared to allow players to leave for reasonable transfer fees, with the real value represented by various sell-on clauses included in the deals. It means that even though some players have left for relatively cheap initial fees, they could hand United a huge financial boost further down the line once they are sold again.
Speaking after the move was confirmed on Friday night, Elanga said: "I'm excited, I'm really happy but most importantly I'm ready. I'm ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football.
"I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest, they really helped me to become the player I am today, but I'm really happy to be here now. The club won a trophy last season and are building something unique, something special that I really want to be part of. I really want to buy into the culture, into the DNA of this club. I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to get started.”
