Anthony Elanga has completed his transfer to Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have completed the £55m arrival of Anthony Elanga after landing their first big name in the transfer market this summer.

The deal sees Elanga make the switch from the City Ground and Newcastle finally declared as winners of a two-year pursuit for the star. The ex-Manchester United man's decision to head north has already excited supporters on Tyneside as they look forward to the Sweden star teaming up with Alexander Isak.

Newcastle say that Elanga has signed a "long-term deal" and will be allocated his squad number in due course.

Elanga said: "I'm excited, I'm really happy but most importantly I'm ready. I'm ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football.

"I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest, they really helped me to become the player I am today, but I'm really happy to be here now. The club won a trophy last season and are building something unique, something special that I really want to be part of.

"I really want to buy into the culture, into the DNA of this club. I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to get started."

Head coach Eddie Howe said: "I'm delighted to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a key target for us so I'm delighted to secure him at this early part of pre-season.

"He is an exciting talent with attributes that make him a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy and ability to create and score goals will strengthen us and complement the way we want to play.

"Anthony is hungry to develop even further with us and to achieve success here, and we’re all looking forward to working with him."

The deal is worth an initial £52m and a further £3m in add ons with Newcastle set to announce the confirmation in due course. Elanga has been on Tyneside for the past 24 hours and has met with Eddie Howe and the backroom staff at the club's Benton base.

Elanga's arrival marks the first major at St James' Park since 2023 when the club paid £55m for Sandro Tonali from AC Milan. The deal is expected to be pushed through without any hitches.

Personal terms and conditions aren't expected to be a problem for the Swedish right winger and he is excited about the challenge ahead.
