LAKE FOREST, Ill., — As the Chicago Bears prepare to open up training camp in less than two weeks, the franchise has made sure general manager Ryan Poles wont be gone any time soon. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bears and Poles have reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension to keep him in Chicago through the 2029 season.
After rumors that Poles had received a contract extension to line him up with new head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears remained quiet on the situation. Until now.
With the new deal, it means that Poles and Johnson are both under contract for the next five seasons. That aligns with what Johnson wanted going into the offseason as he seeked a head coaching opportunity with Chicago.
Poles was named the general manager in 2022, taking on a complete rebuild of the franchise which hasn't been to the playoffs since 2020 and hasn't won a playoff game since the 2010 season. Poles is 15-36 in that span, which also includes drafting Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
