Man Utd tipped to make "last-minute move" to sign £69m star, Amorim wants the player - report

Manchester United are poised to bolster the forward department with multiple signings.

The Red Devils had a disappointing 2024/25 season in the Premier League as they scored just 42 goals.

They finished a lowly 15th in the table, and the onus is now on bolstering the attack.

The club have already signed Matheus Cunha to add creativity, while talks are ongoing with Brentford for the potential transfer of Bryan Mbeumo.

A marquee striker could also be targeted, and Portuguese outlet O Jogo (page 8) claim that manager Ruben Amorim does not give up on Viktor Gyokeres.

The Sporting CP star has a clear preference to join Arsenal to play Champions League football, but the Gunners have yet to sort out a suitable agreement.

Amidst this, it is claimed that United could re-enter the race with a ‘last-minute move’.

The player’s representatives are aware that they can salvage a deal via the Red Devils amid the impasse in negotiations between Sporting CP and the Gunners.

Gyokeres to United speculation could be agent-driven

It is an open secret that Amorim would like to sign Gyokeres this summer, but the Swede has a preference to play Champions League football with Arsenal.

The Swede has already agreed personal terms over a five-year contract with the Gunners, and he is waiting for the north London giants to finalise the transfer package.

There is currently an impasse due to a gap over the fixed fee. Arsenal are ready to meet the £69 million valuation, but have offered £4.3m less than Sporting want upfront (£60.6m).

We believe his representative is using United as a negotiation tool to persuade Arsenal to speed up talks. It won’t be a surprise if Arsenal make an improved proposal over the weekend.

Gyokeres is quite clear on his priority to join the Gunners, and United should focus on signing an alternative striker who is determined to play for the club without any conditions.
