Jacob Bruun Larsen returns to Burnley

The Danish winger makes his return to Burnley

JacobBruun Larsen****, who spent the 2023/24 Premier League season on loan at Burnley, has made a return to the Clarets on a four year deal.

In his previous stint with Burnley he managed to score six goals in 32 appearances, only 16 of which were starts. Which amounted to the winger only playing 1248 minutes in that season. But his goal return, in the limited minutes, as a winger is encouraging signs for a team that might not score many goals.

Speaking to Clarets+ about his return to the club, "It was a very easy decision for me, once I knew the club were interested, I just knew that I was ready to come back and sign here permanently," said Bruun Larsen.

With this signing it adds quality in depth in the wide positions for Burnley. Already having the likes of Marcus Edwards, Jaidon Anthony, Loum Tchaouna, Luca Koleosho amongst others all fighting for the wide positions, the signing of Bruun Larsen adds quality in depth for the Clarets.

His crossing and dribbling ability is something that will improve Burnley immensely. With his ability to carry the ball forward without losing possession and his ability to put good crosses into his teammates, it will be an important method of chance creation for Scott Parker's men.

Bruun Larsen also has the ability to play centrally as a striker. Giving Scott Parker even more flexibility in how he can set up his team tactically.

Experience

The talented winger came through the very successful Borussia Dortmund academy. Going on to make 42 appearances for the well-known German side.

This earned him a move to fellow German side Hoffenheim in the 2019/20 season. He went on to stay at Hoffenheim until January of 2025. Having a loan spell to Belgiant giants Anderlecht in 2020/21 and a loan spell to Burnley in 2023/24.

Most recently he spent six months at Stuttgart. Although this spell only saw him four starts.

The Danish winger has also notched up seven caps for Denmark and managing to score once for his country.

Having won the DFB-Pokal in 2016-17 with Borussia Dortmund and again in 2024-25 with Stuttgart. Shows that he knows what it takes to win games albeit in cup competitions but this only helps in pressure games especially when battling against relegation.

Leadership

Scott Parker's side isn't blessed with many experienced heads, although the recent signing of Kyle Walker has helped change that and despite Bruun Larsen only being 26 years of age he can still add some leadership to the squad.

After experiencing relegation in 2023/24, with Burnley under Vincent Kompany, Bruun Larsen will know what to expect from the challenge ahead of the team. The experience of that heart break will help prepare some players that might not have been through the potential challenge at hand.

Having played at some of the biggest European teams and some of the biggest teams in their respective countries. The winger would have been around high level coaches and players on a consistent basis. Allowing him to pick up knowledge and skills that he might be able to pass on to the rest of the Burnley squad.

Impact on the Burnley squad

This signing adds a lot of quality in the forward areas. But more importantly, it adds flexibility to tactical set ups that Scott Parker might want to try.

As this signing along with the recent additions of Kyle Walker, Axel Tuanzebe and Quilindschy Harman gives Scott Parker the ability to move to a five-man defence as Bruun Larsen has the work rate and work ethic to work on hard on defence.

Having this tactical flexibility within the squad means Scott Parker will be able to make in game changes tactically that might be the difference maker to losing or gaining points.
