Thunder won’t play a preseason game at the Bok Center

Bill Haisten

Tulsa-area fans of the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder may be disappointed and perhaps a bit stunned that there will not be an NBA preseason game at the BOK Center in October.

An organization spokesman explained to the Tulsa World that there was an attempt to schedule another Thunder appearance in downtown Tulsa, but there was a problem with securing an opponent.

Before the start of 15 of the 17 seasons since the organization moved to Oklahoma, the Thunder played a preseason contest at the BOK Center. In October 2012 – after the 2011-12 Thunder had advanced to the NBA Finals – there was a then-BOK Center-record crowd of 18,233 for an OKC victory over Phoenix.

As part of its contract with Oklahoma City’s arena, the Thunder is required to play at least two preseason games at the Paycom Center. The six-game Thunder preseason schedule does include two Paycom Center games: Charlotte on Oct. 9 and Denver on Oct. 17.
