The [Utah Jazz](https://www.slcdunk.com) fell to the Charlotte Hornets (105-111) in a close game where Kyle Filipowski dominated. Unfortunately, Ace Bailey found himself on the injury report, so his [Las Vegas Summer League](http://www.sbnation.com/nba-summer-league) debut will have to wait. However, we got to see the 4th overall pick in the draft, Kon Knueppel, who had an underwhelming scoring game for the Hornets.
For the Utah Jazz, Kyle Filipowski got off to a hot start offensively, opening the game with a quick 7 points and 1 assist in less than 3 minutes, and it didn’t end there. He stayed hot and ended the game with 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 block, shooting 70.6% from the field. In my opinion, Kyle is CURRENTLY our best young player on the team. 7-footers who can dribble, pass, and shoot do not grow on trees, and are very valuable in the NBA — especially if they can bring the ball up the court off of a rebound. The defense still has ways to go, but Kyle Filipowski is not a natural 5, his NBA position is a 4, and I believe he will find a great amount of success playing alongside guys like Walker Kessler, Taylor Hendricks, Ace Bailey, and Jusuf Nurkic because those guys can either play the 5 or help out on defense. However, his performances during the Summer League games thus far have been very impressive offensively, and considering he had a great rookie year, I can confidently say he will be playing in the NBA for a long time.
I really love what Walter Clayton Jr does for the team. Walt finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block, shooting 40% from distance (4/10). He is one of the few guys on this Summer League squad who is willing to move the basketball. Right now, I would say that Walter Clayton Jr is the best guard on the Utah Jazz roster after the departure of Collin Sexton, and that is expected as he is the oldest guard we have on the roster and because he is coming off an incredible NCAA Championship run. Walter Clayton Jr. plays at his own pace, stays within the offense, and makes the right reads when he gets the ball. Unlike some of our young guys, Walt looks like he belongs on the court, and that is half the battle right there. He left the game early with what looked to be a hamstring issue — I pray that this does not become a common issue with him during his career.
Isaiah Collier had a rough first half but found a groove in the third quarter. He ended with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists, where he drained 2 triples!
Cody finished with 21 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal on 42% from the field and 3/11 from 3pt land. He felt invisible on the basketball court until the 4th quarter began, where he started attacking the basket, making open shots, and even had a drive to the basket, which resulted in a DUNK! It is very nice that he got going late, but he has to be more consistent throughout the game — in ways other than scoring — instead of a 6-minute spurt, especially in Summer League games. Let’s hope that he gets better as Summer League continues.
It is always fun watching the Utah Jazz, and I am looking forward to the development of the young cats this season!
