A trade is highly unlikely, as the future Hall of Famer is set to make $52.6 million next season, too steep for Cleveland to absorb.
If James doesn't request a trade or agree to a buyout, next season will likely be his final year with the Los Angeles Lakers, per the same report.
Meanwhile, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 reports that the Lakers would like to move on from LeBron "ASAP."
Interestingly, James was seen at the Cavs' practice facility last weekend. He was in town for the holiday and worked out at the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center.
If James and the LA Lakers agree to a buyout, he would become an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team.
LeBron, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, last played for the Cavs from 2014 to 2018, helping the franchise secure its only championship in 2016. He was originally drafted by Cleveland with the No. 1 pick in 2003.

James recently opted into his player option for the 2025–26 season, worth $52.6 million.
However, with Luka Doncic reportedly being viewed as the Lakers' new franchise cornerstone, some believe LeBron could eventually request a trade.
James has a no-trade clause in his contract and has been with the Lakers since 2018.
He is also the oldest active player in the NBA, turning 41 in December.
Last season, LeBron played in 70 games, averaging 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists.
