Manchester City star Jack Grealish has been sent a clear message over his career in England as he considers his next career move. The 29-year-old was left out of City’s squad for the World Club Cup in America, a clear indicator he is no longer part of Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Grealish has also fallen out of England contention ever since Gareth Southgate axed him for Euro 2024. He’s yet to feature under new boss Thomas Tuchel, and currently, his prospects of playing in the World Cup next summer look remote. In another blow to his floundering career, fans have now essentially told the ex-Aston Villa man to forget his hopes of a recall for the Three Lions.
In a poll of Express Sport readers, 27 per cent of voters said his next move should be a switch to Saudi Arabia. Despite a recall for Ivan Toney under Tuchel, Grealish heading to the Middle East would be perceived as the death knell for his international career.
The remainder of the readers were divided on which club would be the best place for him to regain his form and fitness. In second place was a return to Villa, with 17 per cent urging him to have another stint with his boyhood club.
The chance to keep playing Champions League football at Newcastle was backed by 16 per cent of readers. However, 15 per cent suggested following players like Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour to Serie A.
A move to play under David Moyes at Everton was preferred by 13 per cent, while 12 per cent suggested Tottenham. City chiefs could also play a hand in his next destination, and may be reluctant to let him leave for Premier League rivals.
Last month, Guardiola admitted Grealish may have to leave to play regularly again. He joined City in a British record £100m deal in the summer of 2021 and was pivotal in their treble-winning campaign two seasons later.
However, he struggled for game time in the 2024/25 campaign and scored just once in the Premier League. He still has two years remaining on his current deal.
