Diogo Jota funeral: Last tributes to the football star

The whole football world along with the nation of Portugal is mourning as they bid farewell to two of their beloved star. Portuguese international star Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, lost their lives in a car accident. Family members, teammates, and thousands of fans joined in the funeral services. As both players were laid to rest at a church in Gondomar in his hometown of Porto on Saturday. The tragic accident took place in Spain earlier this week in the province of Zamora. The Spanish police stated that Jota’s car was trying to overtake another vehicle in the highway. In this process, the car’s tyre got blown out, and lost control and caught fire. Both the passengers Diogo and Andre died on the scene. People from around the world are mourning the tragic loss of two of the beloved players, Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.

Diogo Jota’s legacy on the field:

Diogo Jota was not just a normal player on the team. He was a great symbol for the Portugal international men’s team known for his rise through the ranks of the team. He was known for his good attacking skills for the teams he played for in his short-lived career. Recently winning the Premier League of 2024-25 with Liverpool and the UEFA Euro Nations League along with Portugal. The recent finals win of Portugal’s 5-4 penalty win against Spain in the finals of the UEFA Euro Nations League. Where Jota came on as a substitute was also coincidentally the last match of his life. Other than Jota also won the 2019 Nations League with Portugal. But he did not make an appearance in the tournament that time. Portugal described the loss of both players as a major void for future times.

Family and Friends farewell for Diogo Jota:

Diogo Jota’s sudden tragic loss has left whole of the whole football community completely shocked. With his beloved teammates unable to hold themselves emotionally during the matches. His former teammates and his best friend Ruben Neves and João Cancelo were left emotional. At the 1-minute silence observed at the FIFA CWC campaign during their match against Fluminense. After playing the match both teammates arrived several hours later to bid their friend a final goodbye. The funeral saw the presence of many former teammates of Liverpool and Portugal. Players like Scottish left-back Robert Anderson, Dutch and Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk, Fabiano, Pepe, Ruben Dias, Gomes, and João Cancelo. Also with the coaches of Liverpool and Portugal, Arne Slot and Roberto Martinez respectively. Ruben Neves playing for Al-Hilal who was also his best friend was also the coffin bearer for Diogo Jota’s funeral procession.

Cristiano Ronaldo missing and Luis Diaz facing backlash at Diogo Jota funeral:

Famous football star and Portuguese teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo was seen to be missing from Diogo Jota’s funeral on Saturday. Several news agencies criticized the star’s absence from the funeral. Replying to these critics Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister Katia Aveiro posted about their own horrible experience during their father’s funeral. The family had to undergo due to the fans rush to the cemetery in the moment of grief. Which caused total chaos in the funeral process. So in order to maintain a situation of peace and calm the star decided to skip the funeral in order to give them space. On the other hand, Liverpool teammate, Luis Diaz who also missed the funeral procession. He was seen partying and dancing the same day at Colombia. Football fans have expressed their disappointment with the player through tweets and messages.

As a football fans, it is hard to realize the passing of two wonderful players of the game. Known for their hard work they did to reach the top stages of the game along with their positive attitude towards everyone. Their passing shows how life is so hard to guess and the reflection that the football world is united in such times.
