Transfer to Aston Villa looks close as player left out of preseason friendly – Manager expects move

On Friday, we covered multiple claims from France that Aston Villa are ahead of Leeds United in the race to sign Marco Bizot. It was also stated the Villans could finalise the deal for the Stade Brestois goalkeeper in the next few hours.

Ouest-France now bring the latest on the Aston Villa’s efforts to secure the 34-year-old’s services this summer.

Claims from elsewhere stated Aston Villa could soon finalise the move once they agree terms with the Ligue 1 club.

Ouest-France relay that and state there’s ‘little doubt’ about the two clubs reaching an agreement for the stopper’s transfer. They add another English club [likely Leeds] will no longer provide competition to the Villans.

Aston Villa are the only club in the running and now have an easy route to acquire the Dutchman’s signature.

The newspaper doesn’t surpass Bizot to eclipse Emiliano Martínez for a place in Unai Emery’s starting lineup. There’s also been suggestions that he doesn’t want to leave as he and his family are happy in France.

Bizot is looking for the last big contract of his career and this would entice him to move to Villa Park. Ouest-France state he was left out of the squad for Friday’s friendly against Concarneau, indicating his move to Aston Villa is at an advanced stage.

After yesterday’s friendly, Stade Brestois manager Éric Roy said Bizot is expected to leave soon and Le Télégramme have relayed his comments.

“Obviously, if he’s not here, it’s something that’s going to happen in the coming days,” he said.
