Viktor Gyokeres is reportedly set to refuse to return to Sporting CP for pre-season training this weekend as he continues to be linked with a mega-money move to the Premier League.
The Athletic reports that the 27-year-old, who was given an extended break by Sporting CP in the hope of resolving his future, has made it clear to the club's president, Frederico Varandas, that he will not play for the Portuguese outfit again.
The report adds that the striker does "not intend" to report back to pre-season training with the club on his scheduled return date on Saturday, July 12.
Earlier this week, the forward appeared to be closing in on a move to North London as Arsenal submitted an offer in excess of £60m. However, The Athletic claims that Gyokeres feels betrayed after that offer was rejected by Varandas.
Manchester United had previously been linked with a move for Gyokeres, who played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP prior to the 40-year-old joining Manchester United last November.
However, it is claimed the former Coventry City and Swansea City forward is "prioritising" a move to the Gunners ahead of United.
Since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in 2023, Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 games for the club, with 54 of those coming last term as Rui Borges' side won the league and cup double.
After seemingly missing out on a move for Gyokeres, United are working on a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
However, the Reds have had two bids rejected for the Cameroon international since beginning their pursuit of the 25-year-old last month.
