With this in mind, Everton have shown an interest in John Victor from the Brazilian outfit Botafogo.

However, according to Ben Jacobs, United have made Victor a concrete target this summer and could look to make their move soon.

“John Victor at Botafogo is a concrete option, but he is not young at all; he’s 29,” said Jacobs.

“He would be prepared to be a backup, or competition for [Andre] Onana.”

The goalkeeper has been hailed as a ‘physical presence’ standing at 6ft 5in by The Athletic.

In the early stages of pre-season training, young goalkeeper Douglass Lukjanciks has impressed Everton coaches following his call-up.

But new faces are certainly needed in that department to provide Jordan Pickford with regular competition in training.

Everton closing in on Mark Travers

Unless Everton were to promote a youngster as their third choice, Everton are going to need to make two goalkeeper signings this summer.

Considering the other areas needing to be improved, this is far from ideal in what’s going to be a hectic summer market.

But Everton are closing in on a deal for Mark Travers, with the AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper looking set to make the move to Merseyside.

Although Victor is said to be open to becoming a backup, playing as a third string is unlikely to appeal to many goalkeepers under the age of 30.
