Callum Wilson sends blunt transfer message to Leeds United and Burnley after Newcastle United…

Callum Wilson is adamant he still has plenty to offer at the highest level amid speculation linking him with Premier League new boys Leeds United and Burnley.

The England international is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Newcastle United following the expiry of his contract. Rumour is rife the Whites are interested in signing Wilson as Daniel Farke looks to beef up his attack ahead of the 2025/26 season.

But the 33-year-old has made it clear he wants regular first team football after a frustrating year at St James' Park. “I had an amazing five years at Newcastle but football moves on so quickly,” he told the I Paper. “I’m at a point in my career now where I’m 33, I still have so much to give, but I’ve not been able to show it.”

The former Bournemouth man will head overseas next week for a fitness camp before making a decision on his future. When asked about United and Burnley's reported interest in his services, Wilson stressed he is not interested in playing a bit-part role.

“When you’re coming on for five, 10 minutes here and there within a game everyone thinks that you can’t play longer than that," he said. “Everyone thinks ‘he’s losing a yard of pace’, all these other things, but obviously coming on as a substitute is completely different to starting a game.

“When you come on as a sub it’s so hard to catch a second wind and before you know it the game is over. That was the only thing for me. I still feel I can offer so much.

“I had conversations with the manager [Eddie Howe] and we established that I’m not at a point mentally where I’m ready to sit on the bench and play No 2 for the whole season. I don’t mind yo-yoing here and there but it’s got to be a fair fight.”
