Kyle Walker took a pay cut to quit Manchester City as his move to Burnley has now been confirmed.

The England international decided he wanted to leave the Etihad Stadium in January before heading out on loan to AC Milan.

However, the 35-year-old failed to secure a permanent switch to the Serie A giants despite starting in 11 of his 16 appearances.

Walker agreed to join Burnley on 5 July, with Scott Parker’s side paying up to £5million if certain bonuses are achieved.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the right-back will now be on less money after completing his switch to Turf Moor.

Walker was believed to be on around £200,000 a week at the Etihad.

Man City to make big savings after Kyle Walker exit

Borson revealed Man City might not be subsiding Walker’s wages following his move to Burnley.

He told Football Insider: “The way the deal seems to have been structured is that they’re paying nothing at all unless he plays 70 per cent of the games and they stay up.

“So, it may be that the deal is we don’t subsidise the deal, you take him on whatever salary you can negotiate with him, worse comes to the worst, then all you’re paying is his wages.

“I think it was something to do with the deal that he did to get out to AC Milan.

“I seem to remember some of the information was that he’d agreed to effectively waive part of the rate that he was being paid to facilitate the deal to AC Milan, which is amazing if he’s done that.

“But it increasingly looks like a very bad decision.

“I think it put him completely off Pep’s side permanently and obviously Milan didn’t work out that well.

“So, I think that’s what’s happened, but the money is small either way really.

“I think City would be relaxed about it and probably just quite pleased to get him off the wage bill.”
