Manchester City have been busier than most Premier League clubs this summer.
After an underwhelming 2024/25 campaign, Pep Guardiola wanted four to five new faces brought into his squad ahead of the new season, a target Man City reached before they jetted off to the FIFA Club World Cup last month.
Over the coming weeks, outgoings will need to happen, with Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips among the names expected to leave the Etihad Stadium in order to trim down Guardiola’s squad.
There are also doubts surrounding the futures of several other stars at Man City, but it is becoming clear that the Manchester club might be making a huge mistake by keeping a £35m player for another year.

Manchester City should reconsider keeping Ederson
It is fair to say that Ederson has been on the decline for some time now, and that was evident once again as Man City were knocked out of the FIFA Club World Cup by Al-Hilal.
The Brazilians’ display against the Saudi side played a big role in Guardiola’s men going home, and Man City fans even called for Ederson to be sold after the contest.

The 31-year-old has been incredible for City since his £35m move from Benfica in 2017; however, with a year left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, the Manchester club should consider bringing in a fee for him this summer.
Al-Nassr showed strong interest in Ederson last year, with the Saudi Pro League club said to have offered the Brazilian a two-year contract worth £50m, but a transfer fee could not be agreed with City, who wanted around £40m, reported ESPN.
Man City could get around half that for their goalkeeper over the coming weeks, with Al-Ittihad one club still keen on signing Ederson.
The decision to sell the Brazilian has even become easier to make, as Barcelona have told Marc-Andre ter Stegen that he is no longer part of their plans.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen offers Man City a short-term solution
Barcelona signed goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol this summer, and that has led to uncertainty over the future of Ter Stegen, as the German has been the Catalan club’s number one goalkeeper for the last decade.
Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Barcelona coach Hansi Flick recently met with the 33-year-old and has informed him that he would not be playing this season for the La Liga club.
Wojciech Szczesny will remain at Barcelona as support to Garcia, but the Polish star knows how good Ter Stegen is, recently telling the press via beIN Sports: “He’s been at a top level for a long time. He’s won the Champions League and I haven’t. I really admire him, so it doesn’t make sense to compare us.”
Ter Stegen would offer Man City a short-term solution and allow the Manchester club time to search for a goalkeeper who could be the number one at the Etihad Stadium for many years to come.
Missing out on millions by keeping Ederson this summer feels like a mistake, especially when the Brazilian continues to make errors, and there is a solution to the problem.
