Man Utd have players that they need to move on in Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, but who should replace them?
Manchester United’s transfer window looks like it will be going up to the closing hours given how much work needs to be done and the pace that they are going at.
Who should Man Utd sign to replace Marcus Rashford?
The obvious decision might be to address the forward line immediately and this is where one of the additions should be made.
There is a merry-go-round of strikers amongst the footballing elite of Europe, however, they all come with expensive price tags in the £70m to £85m price range. United would have to clear out a lot more dead wood before they could entertain such a deal.
With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirzkee more physical in terms of their profile, Amorim needs a more versatile, dynamic and energetic forward and have been linked with Christopher Nkunku already.
Capable of playing on either wing or through the middle, United have been quoted £35m to sign a striker with a lot to prove but who still has enough credit in terms of ability.
With 20 goal contributions in 2200 minutes, the France international returned from an injury hit 2023/24 with a solid return. In a consistent team with a run of games, there is no reason why he can’t return to the sort of form that made him one of the most sought after forwards in Europe and Chelsea pay £52m for his services.
Who should Man Utd sign to replace Jadon Sancho?
Amorim’s system doesn’t really allow for an out and out winger so there is no point replacing Sancho directly. What he needs though is someone to knit the whole midfield and attack together.
For around £35m, United could hijack AC Milan’s bid for Ardon Jashari and land a carbon copy of Luka Modric. A deep-lying playmaker who can control the tempo of a game and link the defence, midfield and attack altogether.
On too many occasions last season, United were too easy to play against and didn’t have enough control either. Jashari provides both without breaking the bank and with the potential to improve even further. The 22-year old wouldn’t break the bank in terms of wages.
The difference that a new, and different, No.9 would make, as well as a midfielder who can dictate the place of play could be a game changer – if the required departures can be sealed.
