Report: Wallace Yan twist out of Brazil as Wolves hear about Flamengo’s major decision

Wolves have used the Club World Cup as an opportunity to scout some South American talent after their previous success in the market.

Wolves are already preparing an offer for Jhon Arias, the Colombian winger regarded as one of the standout players in the tournament.

Arias is a former teammate of Andre’s at Fluminense; meanwhile, Wolves are also looking at a player from Joao Gomes’ previous club, Flamengo.

Recent reports have suggested that Wolves want to sign striker Wallace Yan after watching him stun Chelsea at the Club World Cup.

Wallace has been valued at between £13 million-£21.5 million after claims the 20-year-old had a release clause of £43 million for clubs outside of Brazil. The problem for Wolves, however, isn’t the asking price but more so whether Flamengo are willing to sell.

Flamengo confident Wallace Yan will sign a new contract

While Arias dreams of playing in Europe, Wallace’s stance on leaving South America for a new challenge is unknown.

Wolves are yet to make an official offer for the 20-year-old, as Flamengo want to give Wallace a new contract, seeing him as a vital part of their future.

According to Brazilian outlet Torcedores, Flamengo will offer their prized asset a ‘significant salary increase’ and will have his release clause bumped up.

Reliable South American journalist Vene Casagrande has reaffirmed those claims by suggesting that ‘the club will renew his contract’, potentially ending any hopes of Wolves signing the forward.

“As far as I know, he’s going to renew his contract with Flamengo,” Casagrande said. “It’s hard to say he’ll stay because he said the same thing about Gerson, and then, two months later… Now, Wallace Yan hasn’t been sold, and Wolverhampton hasn’t made an offer to Flamengo.

“The club will renew his contract to increase his salary and automatically increase his release clause for the national and international market.”

Nothing is set in stone yet, and a lucrative offer from Wolves could sway their decision. But as it stands, it’s looking difficult to poach Wallace from the Brazilian giants.

Wallace Yan must take inspiration from Joao Gomes

Wolves fans would be delighted if they pulled off the signing of Wallace, as his potential is limitless, and he’s already showcased his talent on the big stage.

In an attack lacking athleticism, Wallace would add searing pace and fleet-footed dribbling, something that would benefit Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Filipe Luis’s praise for Wallace is also an indication as to why he’d be a brilliant signing, and Joao Gomes can play a role in making it happen.

Gomes left Flamengo at the start of 2023 to pursue a career in English football and he’s since become a key player in Brazil’s midfield.

Having seen the former Flamengo star flourish and earn international recognition, surely Wallace will want to take inspiration from the midfielder and test himself in the Premier League.
