Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers denied an autograph request from a fan while at the American Century Championship, a celebrity golf tournament.
Rodgers called the fan an ‘autograph hound’ and refused to sign the autograph. The fan had a ticket stub from when he claimed he was at a Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints game 20 years ago in 2005.
The Packers won that game 52-3, and it was in Rodgers’ rookie season. At the time, Rodgers was Brett Favre’s backup. To test the fan, Rodgers asked who they played in that game, and they answered ‘Saints’ correctly.
Rodgers noted each team was on the ticket, and as a second test, asked the fan what the final score of the game was, and the fan said 50-3, just two points off the final score.
The fan called out a small detail to Rodgers, though. And that was the fact, Rodgers completed one pass in that game, coming in after Favre was yanked in the blowout.
“One pass, though,” the fan said. “I remember you threw a pass. I don’t remember it like that, I was 16, 20 years ago.”
Despite that fact, Rodgers still did not believe the fan, which is when he refused to sign the autograph.
You can look it up, though, and I would believe you, then I would sign your thing, but since I don’t believe you, I’m not going to sign it," Rodgers said. “You’re an autograph hound. You can’t fool me. Can’t fool me.”
Rodgers has been critical of scalpers using his autographs and selling them online in the past.
