Man Utd are expecting a cash windfall worth millions after Anthony Elanga completed his £55m transfer to Newcastle United on Friday.
The Magpies announced the winger’s arrival on a five-year contract following his move from Nottingham Forest, who will receive an initial transfer fee of £52m plus £3m in add-ons.
Elanga said he is “really happy” to be at St. James’ Park after spending “an amazing two years” at the City Ground, adding that the club are building “something special” he wanted to a part of.
Man Utd to receive millions following Anthony Elanga transfer to Newcastle
The move comes just two years after he left Manchester United to join Forest in a deal worth £15m. That fee looks paltry now given what he is now worth, but the Red Devils are at the very least going to fetch a few more quid for their former player.
When they sold him in 2023, the negotiated a sell-on clause with Forest that would see them receive between 15 and 20 per cent of the profit on any future transfer.
The Tricky Trees have made a very nice profit of £40m on Elanga, meaning Man Utd are due to make somewhere between £6m-£8m from his latest switch.
Elanga joined United at the age of 12 and graduated from the club’s academy to break into the senior team in 2021. He went on to make 55 appearances in all competitions, registering four goals and four assists.
