OPINION: Man United Should Sign £50m Nottingham Forest And Spurs Target As Ollie Watkins Alternative

Man United should consider targeting Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this summer instead of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

The Red Devils have been linked with Watkins during this transfer window, as they want a new number nine, who can replace Rasmus Hojlund. It comes after a season where the 22-year-old scored just four Premier League goals across the season.

Viktor Gyokeres had been the primary target at the striker position, but it seems most likely that he will join Arsenal, and Watkins is seemingly not for sale, as Villa don’t want to get rid of him.

As potential alternatives, Man United have considered former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but surely he isn’t going to be much of an improvement on Hojlund. So the Red Devils need to consider other options.

Man United should sign Yoane Wissa

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has not been linked to Man United this summer, and it is really difficult to see why, considering the season he had last year.

The 28-year-old made 35 Premier League appearances for Brentford, scoring 19 goals, which is the same as Watkins and Calvert-Lewin combined last year. He is also a year younger than Watkins, and he’s expected to cost less money.

According to the Athletic, Nottingham Forest have had a bid rejected for the striker, with the Bees looking to sell him for around £50m. Tottenham Hotspur are also credited with interest, as Thomas Frank wants to take the Congolese attacker with him to North London.

Man United are already trying to sign Bryan Mbeumo, but just imagine if they could get Wissa too, as last season, the pair were one of the most devastating attacking duos in the league. It could transform Ruben Amorim’s attack.

If the Red Devils are struggling to afford Wissa’s £50m asking price, they could always offer Hojlund in return, allowing Brentford to have a younger, promising striker, who could be top class in the Premier League. It’s a surprise that Wissa hasn’t been in consideration yet.
