Zépiqueno Redmond’s decision to join Aston Villa from Feyenoord this summer has been questioned, with the benefits do not clear to some.
That’s at least according to journalist Dennis van Eersel, [via Feyenoord Pings](https://www.feyenoordpings.nl/feyenoord-exit-zorgt-voor-verbazing-ik-snap-hem-helemaal-niet/), who has explained that he doesn’t see why the striker has moved to Aston Villa from the Dutch side.
Redmond joined Aston Villa on a free transfer at the beginning of the month after they secured a deal for him earlier this year.
There has been a sense of frustration about the move in the Netherlands, with Redmond having come through Feyenoord’s youth ranks since 2019, playing in their Youth, U17, U18 and U21 sides as well as making nine appearances in their first team.
He was considered a potential future first-team player but has instead jumped ship to join Aston Villa, where he’s been placed in their U21s for the time being.
The move has been questioned in several corners because of that fact and Van Eersel is the latest to question the 19-year-old’s decision to move to Villa Park, particularly as there would have been financial rewards on offer in the Netherlands for him.
“He’s not ready for that at all, is he?” he said on De Vereeniging van Rijnmond.
“I don’t understand that guy at all. He could have stayed at Feyenoord; he would have been better off financially.
“We’ve seen many youngsters make a move like this before him, at this age. They didn’t make it. Maybe it could have been done differently, through a more sensible route. He simply wasn’t ready at Feyenoord yet.”
