Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 7/12: The Usual State of Litigation and Confusion

THE DAILY BLOVIATION

Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

I'm confused.

There is nothing abnormal about this.

You see, I'm confused because I'm hearing one thing and seeing another, which usually leads to confusion. Granted, my brain is particularly susceptible to confusion, but I think it may have a right to be in this case.

Just the other day, I noted that the City of Cleveland, in the person of the mayor, had appeared to enter the "acceptance" phase of grief by acknowledging that the Browns were gone and it was time to focus on what to do with all that glorious lakefront land.

Yet, this morning, I woke up to find that the Browns and local politicians are still squabbling in court over whether the team has the right to leave the city limits and relocate a few miles away. A Cuyahoga County judge rejected the Browns request to throw out one lawsuit yesterday, and the county's lawyers seek a total block on the team's plans.

There's a whole mix of federal and state lawsuits from the local politicians - country, city, dumpster management council, whatever - while the city's mayor seems just eager to move on from the whole thing.

Look, I'm a webdork with a busy schedule. I don't have time to keep up on who is suing whom. I guess right now I'm sort of embarrassed about the desperation of the City of Cleveland and the county, all of whom have a lot to be proud of (and concerned with) beyond whether the local football team plays in downtown or ten miles away.

The more I watch the news (local, state, national), the more I'm baffled about where all the money comes from to support the hurricane of lawsuits that seems to be enveloping the country. Someone is paying for the judges, the bailiffs, the court buildings, the lawyers, and so on. I just suspect that the billions of lawsuits filed because people can't compromise are somehow costing me money, because everything winds its way to my meager pockets.

A long time ago, I proposed that the City peacefully let the Browns pursue HaslamWorld while seeking out their help transforming the lakefront. You know, compromise.

But that's not how things are done anymore, I guess. I'll just sit over here and be naive.

But wait! There's more Browns "news", little of which is actually news, but rather people ranking players and such.

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
