Manchester United chief Omar Berrada has already explained that the club will need a bit of patience to secure new signings this summer, amidst the ongoing Bryan Mbeumo saga.

Despite kicking off talks with Brentford over a month ago, United are still yet to strike a deal with their Premier League rivals for the Cameroon international, causing some fans to get a bit antsy.

United put in an initial bid for Mbeumo back in early-June, believed to be around £55million, but it was promptly knocked back. They then upped the ante with a beefed-up offer north of £60m just over two weeks ago.

It seemed like that second punt would be enough to get Brentford to give United the go-ahead to seal the deal for the forward. However, negotiations are still underway with rumours that the Bees are holding out for a cool £70m.

United got off to a fast start in the transfer window last month, announcing they'd struck a deal with Wolves to snap up Matheus Cunha for £62.5m just 14 hours after the window flung open on June 1.

But, the task was made simpler by the fact Cunha had a release clause in his contract, reports the Manchester Evening News.

United haven't had the luxury of a release clause in their pursuit of Mbeumo, meaning talks have been dragging on for over a month now. Both the Reds and the striker are equally eager to hammer out a deal.

Ruben Amorim

However, United's urgency to bolster their ranks in other areas this summer could be hampered by the drawn-out negotiations with Brentford.

Following a dismal 2024/25 season, United are keen to infuse new talent into the squad this summer, giving head coach Ruben Amorim the best shot at propelling the club forward in the forthcoming campaign. They're eyeing up a striker, a midfielder and a goalkeeper, on top of Mbeumo.

But with no European footie on the cards for 2025/26, the cash flow will take a hit, forcing United to play it smart. Simultaneously, they're walking a tightrope between recruiting top-notch players without breaking the bank.

"He [Matheus Cunha] was an important one to get done," Berrada revealed to United We Stand last month. "We're going to do our best to do more signings quickly.

"Sometimes when you're not quick, it's because you're negotiating and you're trying to make sure you get the right value for money. So being efficient or quick isn't necessarily the best thing for the club."
