Newcastle United will press on with their summer transfer mission after securing a £55m deal to bring Anthony Elanga to the North East. The Magpies still have funds available and Eddie Howe is keen to secure more signings before the pre-season schedule gets under way.
United face Celtic in Glasgow in the opening game of the summer, before heading out to the Far East to face Arsenal in Sinagpore and then games against Tottenham and a K-League XI in South Korea.
Newcastle's interest in Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford is no secret, and the England shot-stopper could be the next player through the door should negotiations proceed in the coming days.
As we reported last week, the two clubs are still apart on their valuation, with Burnley looking for a deal close to £40m for the 22-year-old.
However, United are hopeful of agreeing a deal which will involve add-ons an bonus payments, which will bring the initial fee down considerably, to around the £27m mark.

While it's understandable that the Clarets should want to hold out for the largest fee they can, Newcastle will have been encouraged by the North West's outfit's transfer activity so far.

Many have suggested he will be Trafford's natural successor at Burnley and his arrival certainly suggests they could be planning for life withoiut their No 1.
"I'm really excited to be here," Weiss said. "It's an amazing club with a big ambition. All the conversations I have had with people from here have been so good and very positive."
Trafford is said to be keen on a move to Tyneside, where he will compete with Nick Pope for the No 1 slot in the coming season.
United are expected to try to move Odysseas Vlachodimos on this summer while Martin Dubravka also faces a decision on his future. Back-up option John Ruddy has signed a one-year contract extension.
