Botafogo have already lined up a replacement for goalkeeper John Victor as they prepare for Manchester United to move for him.
That’s according to GOAL Brasil, who say Botafogo are already working on a potential deal for Atlético-MG’s Matheus Mendes.
GOAL explain that Botafogo have made enquiries about Mendes, who pleases the club’s board as they make preparations for John to depart.
He has been linked with a move to Manchester United for months and GOAL insist that they have made an offer for him at this point. According to them Manchester United are willing to pay the goalkeeper’s release clause to lure him away this summer.
That clause is valued at $8m and it seems the belief in Brazil is that they’re going to activate it sooner rather than later.
That certainly seems to be the feeling at Botafogo at least, where they’re already preparing a move for his replacement and evaluating their options for when it happens.
Now we would point out that John has been linked with Manchester United for a while without anything really happening or the Premier League side even making a bid of any kind.
Thus, we’ll take this with a pinch of salt for now, waiting for something concrete despite Botafogo seemingly thinking a move is on the cards.
