The Telegraph reports that Onana picked up a hamstring injury during training and is set to miss the club's tour of the United States. The Cameroonian could miss around six to eight weeks of action and that might include sitting out the opening game of the 2025-26 season against Arsenal.
The 29-year-old has struggled to impress since arriving as David de Gea's replacement in the summer of 2023. There were already doubts over him continuing as Amorim's number one next season, and his injury should prompt the Red Devils to swoop for a proven shot-stopper in the Premier League.

Emiliano Martinez has been on United's shortlist this summer amid concerns over Onana's performances. Amorim needs a reliable goalkeeper between the sticks and the veteran Argentine has been one of the best shot-stoppers for several years at Aston Villa.
Martinez has already expressed interest in joining the Red Devils amid expectations that he'll be leaving Villa Park this summer, per GIVEMESPORT sources. The only problem is that the Villans are valuing him at £40m, and at 32 years old, it's a hefty fee for a player whose best years are behind him.
United know what they are getting from Martinez, and his arrival would put pressure on Onana to perform. He has been a leader under Unai Emery and was crucial in helping the west Midlands outfit qualify for last season's Champions League.
Martinez was called "unbelievable" by Peter Crouch after a heroic performance against Juventus in Europe's top-tier competition. It's one of several outstanding displays he's put in throughout his time at Villa Park.

Martinez has the personality that can help turn the tide; his polarising character can rile up the opposition but also galvanise his teammates. When Onana struggles, his lack of confidence tends to impact his defence, and that's been a problem that needs rectifying. There are no question marks over the former Arsenal shot-stopper's confidence.
