For the last two seasons, Manchester United have suffered with significant injury issues affecting the vast majority of the club’s squad, with Ruben Amorim feeling this last season.

Now, the Portuguese manager has already been hit with a major injury blow as Andre Onana has been ruled out of the pre-season.

Before the summer break, Amorim issued personalised conditioning plans to all his squad who are set to feature next season, in a bid to see them return in good physical shape to hit the ground running and avoid injury.

However, in the first week back, Onana has suffered a hamstring injury which is set to rule him out of action for between 6 and 8 weeks.

As such, the Cameroon international is set to miss United’s pre-season tour of the States and the start of the Premier League season.

Now, Ruben Amorim is faced with the dilemma of given the chance of replacing Onana to someone already in his squad, or turn to the market to sign a replacement.

The Telegraph has reported that this is the consideration being had by the Portuguese manager.

United appear to be front-runners to sign Botafogo’s John Victor who absolutely shone at the Club World Cup, however are also leading the race for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

That said, Amorim does still have some strong back ups as his disposal, with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton still in the senior team and Elyh Harrison, Dermot Mee and Radek Vitek as promising options in the reserve side having come through the academy.

With the club flying to America in just over a week, Amorim will need to make his decision over the weekend to give chance to the club’s recruitment team to get a signing underway if that is the route he wishes to go down.
