Manchester United’s pre-season has only just begun but already injuries are playing a part in Ruben Amorim’s preparations for the 2025-26 season.
The summer break already feels like a distant memory, with Manchester United’s first week of pre-season training now in the books.
All signs suggest that it has been a strong week with numerous talking points emerging.
Matheus Cunha has been an instant success, impressing with his goal scoring and ball carrying in the sessions so far.
Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee’s finishing has improved from last season, if the clips released are anything to go on. Elsewhere, most importantly, Ruben Amorim has been conducting 11 vs 11 tactical sessions, which is where he has wanted to develop all along.
However, on a week of positivity, United have been dealt a blow.

Andre Onana set to miss Manchester United pre-season
Ever since pre-season commenced on Monday, there has been a generally positive atmosphere at Carrington and that has crept into the fanbase with hope and optimism building.
The last thing Ruben Amorim would have wanted would be an injury to one of his starters, but that is exactly what has happened.

It comes according to The Telegraph, that United have been dealt a blow in the form of Andre Onana picking up an injury which has ruled him out of pre-season.
Onana has picked up a hamstring injury which will rule him out for between six and eight weeks, taking him right up to the end of August.
This is a blow, as just this week Onana’s future at United was decided as he is set to remain under Amorim this summer.
Due to this, United are now weighing up whether to bring forward the pursuit of a goalkeeper in order to strengthen before the season begins. Ineos have likely already done work on a goalkeeper, having been linked with several this summer, and so it shouldn’t be complicated.
However, the report also mentions that United are also now looking internally.
Radek Vitek could now have golden opportunity under Ruben Amorim
Within the report confirming Onana’s injury, it was also mentioned that Radek Vitek could potentially be a solution for United during pre-season.
Vitek is highly regarded at United, and is considered as a leading contender to be the goalkeeper starting on tour.
Vitek has always been considered in the running to feature in pre-season after his heroics last season on loan.
The 2024-25 campaign saw Vitek shine on loan with Blau Linz, so much so that he was one of the best goalkeepers in Austria last season. Now, he could seize a golden opportunity to establish himself for United and negate the need for a signing.
