Bryan Mbeumo will complete his transfer from Brentford to Manchester United in the coming week according to the latest reports, putting a lengthy saga to bed.

The Red Devils opened talks with their Premier League rivals regarding a move for the Bees' top goalscorer pver a month ago. They first saw a £55m offer rejected, a £60m offer was then placed, but still no agreement has been finalised amid claims Brentford are holding out for £70m.

Now, it is claimed the situation is about the change entirely, and with a quick resolution expected.

According to The Telegraph, Mbeumo 'is expected to arrive at United this week before the squad goes on tour with a breakthrough in negotiations expected in the coming days.'

This would certainly be a huge boost to manager Ruben Amorim, who will want the best part of his squad in place before they begin playing this pre-season after the original target of completing Mbeumo's signing before pre-season was not met.

United's stars, bar those who are seeking exits, returned to training earlier this week. Their first test is scheduled for one week's time on Saturday, July 19. That is against newly-promoted Leeds United in Stockholm, Sweden.

Amorim's men then continue their preparations in the United States. Three Premier League Summer Series fixtures await them across the Atlantic Ocean, against West Ham United (July 27), Bournemouth (July 31) and Everton (August 3).

And last up is an Old Trafford meeting with Serie A outfit Fiorentina (August 9), eight days before the season opener at home to Arsenal.

Should United make this anticipated 'breakthrough' and complete Mbeumo's signing this week, it will be beneficial as it gives the attacker a substantial amount of time to bed into new surroundings and create relationships with new teammates.

Matheus Cunha and defender Diego Leon have already come through the door so far this summer, but United need further additions if they want to avoid a repeat of last season.

"He [Matheus Cunha] was an important one to get done," chief executive Omar Berrada told United We Stand last month. "We're going to do our best to do more signings quickly.

"Sometimes when you're not quick, it's because you're negotiating and you're trying to make sure you get the right value for money. So being efficient or quick isn't necessarily the best thing for the club."
