Jets Floated as Potential Trade Fit for 2-Time Pro Bowl Receiver

The New York Jets are entering the 2025 NFL season as a relatively unknown team. With Justin Fields taking over as the new starting quarterback, no one knows what to expect.

Fields has shown flashes of big-time potential in the past. Last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he appeared to be vastly improved from where he was just a year before. However, he is an unproven player.

Around him, the Jets have put together a talented offense.

Garrett Wilson is currently his go-to No. 1 wide receiver. It helps that Fields played with Wilson during their time in college at Ohio State. New York also has Josh Reynolds, Allen Lazard, and Malachi Corley at the wide receiver position.

In the backfield, the Jets have Breece Hall penciled in as their starter. They also have both Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis that they're excited about.

Could New York consider pursuing a major move to improve the offense even more around Fields? How about a trade for Washington Commanders two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin?

That is exactly what Mike Kadlick of Sports Illustrated has suggested.

"Should the Jets pull off a trade for McLaurin, they'd pair him with young star Garrett Wilson—who has totaled 1,000+ yards in each of his first three seasons in the NFL. He would also bring some much-needed experience to a team that's been longing for an adult in the room," Kadlick wrote.

"Oh yeah, and the trio of Fields, Wilson, and McLaurin are all former Ohio State Buckeyes—so that's fun, too."

McLaurin may not end up being made available by the Commanders. But, if he is placed on the trade block, the Jets would make sense as a potential suitor.

During the 2024 NFL season in Washington, McLaurin racked up 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns in 17 games. It was his fifth straight 1,000-yard receiving season.

At 29 years old, McLaurin is still very much in his prime. He would require a new contract after any potential trade, but that would be worth the money for New York. His presence could make the Jets one of the most high-powered offenses in the NFL.

While this is just an idea and there is no guarantee McLaurin will even be available, it's an idea that makes sense. New York wants to get back to being a playoff contender. McLaurin would help them towards that goal.
