Report: Domino set to fall for Man Utd to replace Andre Onana, Jason Wilcox ready to trigger release clause

The future of Andre Onana at Manchester United has been much debated over the past few months.

After a poor campaign, Andre Onana can hardly be shocked that the club would consider replacing him.

Manchester United have been linked with several goalkeepers this summer, however budget constraints make signing an upgrade almost impossible.

Due to this, Onana returned to Carrington expecting to be at the club next season and he was in training this week, preparing for the new season.

However, Onana has picked up an injury during week one which will keep him out for between six to eight weeks and out of pre-season which will reignite a need to find a new goalkeeper.

This could see Radek Vitek handed a chance to impress, or alternatively a market opportunity signing could be made.

Botafogo target John Victor replacement amid Manchester United links

It is unlikely that this summer will see United spend big money to replace Onana, despite links with Emiliano Martinez, Diogo Costa and others.

However, there are some goalkeepers available for cheap who might not be big names but could offer Amorim another option and possibly replace the Cameroonian in goal.

This would be the case with United linked Brazilian John Victor, and now a move for the Botafogo number one looks increasingly likely.

According to Goal Brazil, the Copa Libertadores champions have made an enquiry to sign Atletico MG goalkeeper Matheus Mendes, in a move to prepare for the exit of Victor.

The report states that Victor has an offer on the table from United and to replace him, Botafogo have been told that they can buy Mendes, although no negotiations have yet started.

United are ready to pay the £5.9m release clause to sign Victor with the 29-year-old representing immense value for money to United.

Manchester United will need to move fast for John Victor

To pay just £5.9m for a goalkeeper of this quality would be a very smart pick up from the club, however, it is a move that needs to happen immediately if they are planning to do it.

With Onana missing pre-season, any signing really needs to arrive to play during this period, otherwise there is little point doing it because the current number one will return and take his role as starter.

This would leave Victor on the bench, where he will likely be unhappy, and where it would be a waste of money for United considering he will likely want a chunky wage packet.

Victor has been linked with Everton as well, which is another reason to act now, to avoid missing out on arguably the most reasonably priced goalkeeper in the market this summer.
