Newcastle United are in the process of building a squad that they hope will be able to compete for the Premier League’s coveted European places next season following their 5th place finish in the English top tier last season.

This has seen Eddie Howe’s side sign two players including former Manchester United right-winger Anthony Elanga.

The Englishman completed his move from Nottingham Forest on a long-term deal yesterday. It has also seen the St James’ Park outfit sign left-winger Antoñito Cordero on a free transfer.

However, there is still work to do ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign which means pursuing other targets.

One of these targets is current Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. The Frenchman excelled last season for the German side scoring 15 times whilst picking up eight assists.

This has seen the 23-year-old attract interest from several clubs including Manchester United alongside fellow Premier League club Liverpool.

But, today, it was revealed that Frankfurt would like to keep Hugo Ekitike as they prepare for the UEFA Champions League next season.

However, they are expecting offers this month.

Now, according to the Telegraph, Newcastle United are hoping to land the signing of the Frenchman in a huge statement of intent ahead of next season.

Currently, the Toon have many strikers at their disposal including Sweden international Alexander Isak who scored on 23 occasions last season.

But, through bringing Hugo Ekitike to St James Park, they would arguably be adding more quality and depth to their attacking range.

Furthermore, following the departure of Callum Wilson at the end of last season, this move would make sense and would benefit the Premier League side as they look to better their 5th place finish in last season’s Premier League campaign in the upcoming season.
