Andre Onana has unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury, ruling him out of Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the USA and the start of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper is expected to be sidelined for 6–8 weeks, missing United’s opening three league fixtures.
Since arriving at Old Trafford, Onana’s performances have been inconsistent, mixing moments of brilliance with costly errors.
Andre Onana’s position at the club had already come under severe scrutiny this summer, with United considering exit option for Andre Onana, with Monaco interested.
Although, previously, goalkeeper was not considered a priority in the transfer market for United, with this latest injury setback, Ruben Amorim is now seriously weighing up the option of bringing in a new goalkeeper.
Whether it’s a short-term solution or a long-term challenger to Onana, Manchester United are exploring their options.
Radek Vitek, just returning from a loan at BW Linz is being considered to compete during pre season, as per the Telegraph

John Victor
Manchester United are weighing up a bid for Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor, who is valued at around £10 million.
A deal appears to be edging closer, with Botafogo reportedly lining up Matheus Mendes as his replacement.
Victor would represent a smart signing for United.
At 29, he brings experience and a well-rounded skill set that fits Ruben Amorim’s system.
He’s an excellent shot-stopper, commanding in the air, and comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Given his price and profile, Victor looks like the most realistic option currently on the table and could provide both short-term cover and long-term competition for Andre Onana.

Senne Lammens
Manchester United have been scouting Senne Lammens as a potential option to cover for Andre Onana.
The 21-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, currently at Royal Antwerp, stands out for his towering 6’64” frame and presence in the box – drawing comparisons to Thibaut Courtois in style and build.
Lammens would be a fairly low-cost signing, making him an attractive option for the club.
While he doesn’t have much top-level experience yet, he’s considered a promising talent with sharp reflexes and decent shot-stopping
Crucially, Lammens wouldn’t arrive with immediate pressure to start every game.
Instead, he could serve as a reliable backup while Onana recovers, and gradually push for the No.1 spot over time.
For United, it’s a move that makes sense both financially and in terms of long-term squad planning.

Emiliano Martinez
Emiliano Martinez had emerged as a top target to replace Andre Onana.
Likely not just as short-term cover, but potentially as a full-time No.1.
Reports suggest United have opened talks with Martinez’s representatives, laying the groundwork for a potential transfer.
The Argentine goalkeeper is keen to stay in England, and with his family reportedly reluctant to move abroad, United may have the upper hand over rival clubs.
Since joining Aston Villa in 2020, Martinez has developed into one of the Premier League’s most dependable keepers.
He brings leadership, composure, and a big-game mentality – qualities United’s defence has often lacked.
A World Cup winner with Argentina, Martinez thrives under pressure and could offer the calm presence needed to stabilise United’s back line.
He would bring instant experience and a winning mentality to the dressing room.
However, some within the club are said to be pushing for a younger, longer-term option.
Still, if United are looking for a proven performer who can make an immediate impact, Martinez would be a bold, ambitious upgrade rather than just a stop-gap for Onana’s absence.
