Man Utd can’t afford to pick and choose who they sell, and interest in one flop should see any bid accepted.

Manchester United are learning the hard way just how painful it can be when recruitment goes wrong and there is a distinct lack of strategy with how transfers are decided.

For some, it isn’t for the shortage of trying, however, effort alone is not enough to be a success at Old Trafford and as a wise man once wrote - ‘If I hadn’t seen such riches, I could live with being poor’.

Given how much work needs to be done to the squad, United are at the stage where any offer should be seriously considered with the priority being to get players off the wage bill and under performers out the door.

Roma interested in signing Man Utd flop Rasmus Hojlund

The current incumbent Rasmus Hojlund just hasn’t managed to adapt to life leading the line at a bigger club with a move away from United only a matter of time. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan and Roma are interested in taking the young Dane back to Serie A, however, not at the near £40m asking price the Red Devils are demanding.

Di Marzio told Tipsbladet earlier in the week that United need to be patient: “He is on the block at AC Milan, but right now they have other subjects they would prefer to sign first.

“Towards the end of the transfer window, all the top clubs in Italy, who are still missing a striker, will approach him.

“Before Rasmus Højlund went to Manchester United, he enjoyed great success at Atlanta, and that is not something that has been forgotten – especially not by one particular gentleman. Roma will probably come on board because Gasperini really likes him, but it can only succeed as a loan deal.”

If United want to offload Hojlund, they have to drop the asking price, it is as simple as that. There is no getting away from hoe poor a signing he has been and the £70m transfer fee that they paid and looked inflated two seasons ago is proving to be a costly mistake.

What should Man Utd take to sell Hojlund?

After the defeat to Fulham in the FA Cup, Gary Neville summed up the mood and opinion of Hojlund perfectly: "Hojlund had a really difficult game, it was a worry," Neville told It's Called Soccer!. "That was my biggest takeaway from the game, there's a lad that now hasn't scored in 18 games.

"I have to say I think he's got a bit of talent and has something physically. But he's shot at the moment and he's really struggling. It's sad.

"You could see when he was subbed off, there was almost a relief in the stadium because the fans knew he had to come off.

"But then again, what chance has Hojlund got with [Joshua] Zirkzee and [Christian] Eriksen behind him? They haven't got attacking full-backs, either."

The problem for Hojlund is the the Fulham game is the norm and good performances where he scores are the exception. Nobody wants to pay £40m for a striker that doesn’t score goals.

If they can get even £25m it would be enough to fund most of a move for Christopher Nkunku who Chelsea want £35m for. Both strikers need a fresh start and United could get a more suitable striker for Amorim’s attack, if they swallow their pride.
