Manchester City Women’s Summer Transfers: How They Will Fit Into the New Boss’s Team

It’s a period of complete change at [Manchester City](https://bitterandblue.sbnation.com) Women with both exciting arrivals, one expected and one unexpected departure, and a new boss in town to try and propel the Blues back into title contenders.

The new boss, current Denmark manager Andree Jeglertz, will take the reins after the Women’s Euros, and he has already made his mark on transfers with three new arrivals over the summer. Jeglertz has seen his Denmark side lose both of their matches at the Euros and face Poland in a bid to avoid the group’s wooden spoon on Saturday evening.

These defeats should not be used as an indicator of the Swedish manager’s ability and he will be judged by what he does at the Joie Stadium, not what has happened previously with Denmark.

But his primary aim once he arrives in Manchester is to send City back into contention for silverware, and the new boss has set about solving the problems that plagued the Blues last season with some good new signings.

Here’s the lowdown on the three so far and how they will fit into Jeglertz’s side:

**Jade Rose**

-------------

The 22-year-old Canadian international defender became City’s first confirmed summer signing of the 2025 window. Rose is a versatile centre-back who can also operate as a full-back, a vital addition in the City defence and her arrival will provide valuable depth and competition in the Blues defensive line.

### **How she fits in**

City’s defensive line has traditionally has been strong, but conceded 28 in the WSL alone last season, compared to just 15 the season before. However, the addition of Rose can offer some options for the new boss. As well as challenging for a centre-back position, Rose can provide cover at full-back, a position that City have lacked in over recent years. Her youth and impressive international experience suggest she’s a signing for both the present and the future, potentially growing into a key defensive anchor under Jeglertz.

**Sydney Lohmann**

------------------

With Jill Roord departing the club in May, City’s midfield was left exceptionally short on options. But the signing of 25-year-old German international Lohmann from [Bayern Munich](https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com) could just the answer to City’s middle of the park problems. Lohmann has made one substitute appearance at the Euros so far and says she was convinced to join the Blues thanks to defender Rebecca Knaak, who joined the club in January.

### **How she fits in**

City’s midfield typically features a combination of creative players and those who can control the play. With Roord departing, this left a space for someone who can control the midfield but also act as a defensive barrier when needed. Lohmann fits that position perfectly. She will offer a more attacking threat from midfield, contribute to ball progression and also provide a strong defensive presence, depending on Jeglertz’s preferred system. Her experience from a top European league will be invaluable to the Blues.

**Iman Beney**

--------------

The young Swiss international forward is another exciting addition, bringing fresh talent to the attacking ranks and will push the likes of Kerolin, Shaw, Hemp and Miedema for a place in the starting line-up. But, at just18, it is likely that Jeglertz will use her as a substitute most of the time until the youngster integrates herself into the team. With a good reputation already, the feeling is that won’t be a long time coming.

### **How she fits in**

Beney’s arrival provides another option in City’s potentially lethal attack. While perhaps more of a prospect for the future, her inclusion indicates a focus on developing young talent and adding variety to the forward line. She will likely compete for minutes and look to learn from the established attackers, offering a different dimension as she develops under Jeglertz.

**Who has Left?**

-----------------

### **Laia Aleixandri**

Aleixandri was a good addition to the side when she joined in 2022 but decided after three years to return to her first club, Barcelona

### **Jill Roord**

Perhaps the most surprising departure of the summer came via the Dutch international, who returned to FC Twente in May. A solid midfielder, she will be missed at the heart of City’s engine room.

### **Chloe Kelly**

Kelly joined Arsenal on loan in January following an acrimonious move to North London under then-manager Gareth Taylor. The manager had all but frozen Kelly out of the side, but she rediscovered herself at Arsenal and made the transfer permanent in June.

An overhaul at Manchester City Women has been long overdue but the summer signings reflect a clear intent to infuse new quality and potential into the squad The focus will now be on how these new talents integrate and how Andrée Jeglertz shapes the team to compete for silverware in what promises to be an exciting, albeit challenging, season.
