Even ahead of [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/)’s first preseason game on Sunday against Preston North End, it’s still not completely clear what the Reds’ squad will look like in the fall. More ins and outs will happen over the next month or so, and questions abound over which current players will not be returning.
World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister is said to have garnered interest from [Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com), as a way to strengthen their squad. Luka Modric left the club at the end of last season, and his role needs to be refilled.
Mac Allister was a standout last season for Arne Slot, and only entering year three of a five year contract, so the Reds have no real reason to support a transfer unless the price is right.
The price, in fact, is at least €100m, a reasonable fee for a player of Mac Allister’s caliber in this transfer market. If Madrid are serious about their interest, then they’d need to find the money from somewhere, since they’ve already put out over €175m this summer. The suggestion is that they will look to sell Rodrygo in order to get the funds to make it happen.
Of all the names being bandied about, Mac Allister feels like one of the least likely to be on the way out — not with his performances last season. Perhaps if the price is right, though, we could see it happen.
