The transfer saga of Viktor Gyokeres has been long and ever-changing.

However, we are not closer to finding out who Viktor Gyokeres will join next – whether that be in the Premier League or in another country.

The striker excelled in the Liga Portugal last season scoring 39 goals whilst picking up seven assists. Furthermore, he was able to score on six occasions in the UEFA Champions League.

This attracted the interest of several English sides including Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool.

For a long period of time, it looked like Manchester United and Arsenal were the main two clubs who were going to battle it out for the striker.

But, it emerged earlier in the transfer window that Gyokeres had “snubbed” Manchester United instead choosing Arsenal earlier on this month.

Earlier in July, it looked like Gyokeres’ transfer to Arsenal was getting closer with the Swede agreeing personal terms with the Gunners.

However, the deal looked to be in doubt from an Arsenal perspective due to a frustrating deadlock between the two clubs around the deal but Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the deal is still being negotiated.

Now, an update has emerged in the Viktor Gyokeres saga. In this latest update, it has emerged via the Guardian that Gyokeres failed to report for training on Saturday.

The Swedish striker was asked to join the rest of the squad by 5pm local time on Saturday. But, as a result of not reporting for this, the Sporting CP squad departed without the 27-year-old for a training camp in Algarve without Gyokeres.

The Portuguese side are likely to now take action against the Arsenal target with fines most likely unless Gyokeres can present a legitimate reason for not turning up such as a medical concern or an urgent family manner.

What is for sure is that the Viktor Gyokeres saga is far from over and will have to be monitored over the coming days.
