The San Antonio Spurs have a long history of finding overlooked players and turning them into stars, and while David Jones-Garcia, who went undrafted in 2024, might not be a superstar in the making, he has proven that he can hang in the NBA.
In his most recent Summer League outing, he posted 25 points on excellent nine-of-12 shooting from the floor. In the previous three Summer League contests, he averaged 22.7 points.
Jones-Garcia is no stranger to scoring. In his final year in college at Memphis, he scored 21.8 points per game. After going undrafted, he signed with the G League Mexican City Capitanes and averaged 24.7 points in 29 games, mostly off the bench.
With a stellar Summer League showing, he is expected to crack an NBA rotation next season and could blossom into a Jordan Clarkson, Jamal Crawford, or (dare I say?) Manu Ginobili role off the bench.
The Spurs, of course, are a logical landing spot. With Blake Wesley and Malaki Branham gone, Jones-Garcia could share the floor with Jordan McLaughlin in the third unit, and the Spurs still have two open roster spots.
In their most recent game, a 111-70 beatdown over the Philadelphia 76ers, Jeremy Sochan, Julian Champagnie, Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Harrison Barnes, De'Aaron Fox, and Victor Wembanyama were all sitting courtside.
Maybe they were introduced to their newest teammate.
