Carlisle United lost 4-0 in a closed-doors friendly with Newcastle United at the Magpies’ training ground.
It was the first pre-season outing for Newcastle and they fielded a strong side in each half with a big bonus being the involvement of Joelinton and Sven Botman, who both missed the end of last season through injury.
Joelinton was on the score-sheet as other goals from Sean Longstaff, Jacob Murphy and Ben Parkinson gave Newcastle a comfortable win.
In the first half Elliot Embleton created two brilliant chances from set-pieces for Mark Hughes’ side but neither were capitalised upon.
Ethan Robson had Carlisle’s best chance in front of goal in the second-half, however, Botman was there to block and clear the danger.
In the end it made for an encouraging start to pre-season for the Premier League side, whose next test sees them take on Celtic in seven days’ time.
For Carlisle it’s a little less glamorous next Saturday with a trip to AFC Fylde.
