Manchester United have a number of players on their current roster who do not have a future under Ruben Amorim. Years of poor squad planning has left the Red Devils in a situation where they need to move on a significant number of players, even if it is at cut-price deals.
While the Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and talented youngster Diego Leon, they have not been able to sell any players yet. To make further improvements to the squad, the club need to focus on exits first and hope to make some space on the wage bill.
Now, as per La Stampa (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have reached a basic agreement with Juventus regarding the transfer of Jadon Sancho and the Red Devils would be willing to move him on for a fee of around £17.2million this summer.
Sancho, 25, has given the greenlight to move to Turin. He is set to sign a long-term contract with Juventus where he would be earning around £5.1 million per year. The English winger’s time at Old Trafford has been disastrous, to say the least, and Man Utd will be taking a massive hit in moving him on.
Last season, despite reconciling with Erik ten Hag, Man Utd loaned Sancho out to Chelsea to play under Enzo Maresca, where he showed flashes of brilliance but failed to perform on a consistent basis. Eventually, the Blues did not reach an agreement with him on his salary, and he was sent back to Manchester.
A much needed reset?
The Englishman is still young and has a lot of time left in his career. Juventus possibly see him as a high-potential winger available for a bargain price and must be hoping that this is a low risk gamble that they will be taking which has massive upsides in the long run.
Although Man Utd will be taking a hit on the fee they paid for him to bring him from Dortmund, they will get to offload a high-earner and make room for a more focussed squad building exercise under Ruben Amorim. It is a shame that Sancho didn’t manage to succeed here.
Despite a financial loss, this is a reset that both parties need. A sale would mark the end of Sancho’s turbulent chapter at Manchester United and clear’s the way for Man Utd’s summer transfer plans. It remains to be seen how things play out in the coming weeks.
