Viktor Gyokeres has been at the centre of a transfer saga this summer with Manchester United and Arsenal being two clubs who have fought over the striker during this transfer window.
This follows Gyokeres’ impressive 2024-25 Liga Portugal season that saw the 27-year-old score 39 goals and gain seven assists.
As well as this, in the UEFA Champions League, he was able to score on six occasions.

But, for a large part of this transfer window, it has looked like Gyokeres would be on his way to Arsenal following him “snubbing” Manchester United in favour for a move to North London.
But, this move looks to be hit a wall with a frustrating deadlock present between Arsenal and Sporting – who are currently trying to negotiate a deal for the striker to move to England.
Earlier, it emerged that Viktor Gyokeres hadn’t reported for training that saw Sporting set off to a pre-season camp without him. This action is expected to be punished by the Portuguese champions over the coming days and weeks.

Now, Sporting’s President Frederico Varandas has spoken on Gyokeres not attending training.
Speaking on the matter, according to Fabrizio Romano on X, the President has stated that “if they (Arsenal) don’t want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we’re very comfortable with that for the next three years”.
Furthermore, he said that “this strategy is also making it more complicated for the player to leave” and that “nobody is above the interests of the club” whoever they are – not even Gyokeres.
He also stated that Sporting are calm and that “everything will be resolved with the market closing, a hefty fine and an apology to the group.”

This statement has revealed the punishment that the Swedish man will receive whilst also displaying Sporting’s intent to fix this situation.
If this situation is to be fixed as the Portuguese side intend, the deal between Arsenal and Sporting may become quicker. But, the coming days will arguably be crucial in the future of the deal.
