Manchester United this summer have been very varied with their transfer targets, with a number of names being associated with the club. The Red Devils need to reinforce a number of positions in the squad and improve their depth, but they also have to do it with a tight purse string.
Ruben Amorim, during his time at Sporting CP, made a name for himself by developing high potential youngsters into elite players and moving them on for a profit. At Man Utd, he has shown signs of working with the wonderkids, like Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi-Martin.
One youngster that Man Utd have been interested in is Southampton breakout star Tyler Dibling. Now, as per the Mirror, the Championship club have dramatically lowered their asking price for the teenage sensation, willing to accept a fee in the range of around £47–56 million.
Southampton were earlier demanding a whopping £100 million, comparing him to the likes of Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho, possibly aiming to deter suitors or reflect his prodigious potential. However, this price drop should make him very appealing to the interested clubs.
Dibling had a brilliant breakout campaign in the Premier League last season and was one of the shining lights in an otherwise disastrous campaign for the Saints. The 19-year-old is a dynamic winger with brilliant close control who can add an X-factor to the Man Utd attack under Ruben Amorim.
From distant dream to an attainable target
The Exeter-born England youth international progressed through Southampton’s academy with a brief stint at Chelsea and debuted in the Premier League during the 2024-25 season. United are not alone in their interest in the player with Manchester City, Tottenham, Bayern and RB Leipzig all in contention.
With Southampton relegated and Dibling under contract until 2027, a summer move in 2025 makes a lot of sense for Man Utd. The Saints might want to move him on this summer, as they would be forced to accept a cut-price deal should they wait until next summer.
The price reduction immediately transforms Dibling from a distant dream to a tangible target for Man United. That said, they need to figure out if the teenager is the reinforcement they are looking for in attack this summer and the next few weeks could give us a clearer picture.
