Since choosing Arsenal earlier in this summer’s transfer window, it looked as if Viktor Gyokeres was on his way to North London instead of Old Trafford.
But, since then, difficulties have arisen between Sporting CP and Arsenal around the potential fee for the striker, with Arsenal unwilling to match Sporting’s demanding.
Gyokeres himself even tried to fix this problem through agreeing to take a pay cut to join the Gunners but negotiations are still ongoing with both clubs to reach an agreement.

Furthermore, Gyokeres himself has been at conflict with the Portuguese champions this summer as the potential of a move to England has become larger.
This has seen the Sweden international skip pre-season training which is expected to be met with punishment by Sporting’s management board.
However, even with this conflict, the Portuguese side’s President, Frederico Varandas, has stated that the situation will be resolved and that Sporting themselves remain calm about it.
However, the President did acknowledge that Gyokeres’ actions have made the potential deal for the Sporting star to leave the club even more complicated.
Furthermore, with the fee for this deal not yet being agreed, other clubs could still hijack the deal between Sporting and Arsenal.

Now, according to journalist Pedro Sousa via leonino.pt, Manchester United are amongst a trio of clubs, including Juventus and Atletico Madrid, who are willing to pay Sporting’s demanded fee for the striker which is an estimated £70 million plus additional costs.
With this being revealed, the prospect of Manchester United hijacking the deal between Arsenal and Sporting over Viktor Gyokeres could become a real possibility.
This therefore makes the next couple of weeks pivotal in deciding the 27-year-old’s future destination.
However, with the current financial struggles United are facing, it’s unsure how realistic this move would be.
It’s been widely reported that United are unable to pursue any further signings until sales have been made, with full focus on Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
As such, it may be worth erring on the side of caution with regards to Sousa’s update.
