Emotional Ndamukong Suh Announces Retirement on Saturday With Eagles Credentials

Ndamukong Suh only played a single season with the Philadelphia Eagles, but his legacy here will always be unquestioned as his retirement announcement makes news.

The five-time Pro Bowler announced his retirement Saturday after a 13-year career with the Eagles, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins. While he will always be known as an All-Pro player with the Lions, Suh won a title with the Buccaneers in 2020 and reached The Big Game twice as a member of the Los Angeles Rams (2018) and Eagles (2022).

That year in Philadelphia showed how important Suh could be to a team.

Midway through the season, the Eagles looked like a Super Bowl-caliber club but with a significant weakness: they couldn't stop the run. Suh signed a free agent deal at the halfway point of the regular season, and recorded a sack with 10 tackles, and helped stabilize the group for the stretch run.

Philadelphia did not win the Super Bowl that year, but Suh's impact is still appreciated today.

The veteran defensive tackle, 38, has called it a career on the anniversary of his father's passing.

"July 12, 2024, was the hardest day of my life," Suh said in an emotional statement. "It's the day I said goodbye to my father, the man who raised me, shaped me, challenged me, and believed in me before I believed in myself. He wasn't just a dad. He was my idol, my coach, and my anchor. He taught me what it meant to be disciplined, focused, and relentless in everything I do."

He won't be remembered by all for his time as an Eagle, but Suh's importance to the organization in 2022 will make him an appreciated member of team history.

And that is always enough for those fans in Philly.
