Despite what many Leeds United fans have said, the club have had a decent start to the transfer window. Four new faces in and more set to arrive before pre-season kicks off is a good place to be in.
Daniel Farke and the recruitment team are working around the clock to find suitable players to add to their squad. So far, the defence and attack have received some much needed depth and quality.

Injuries saw the squad stretched thin last year, but with these new additions, hopefully Farke can use this team to its full potential. Leeds are slowly building a team good enough to survive in the Premier League.

The Whites have made their stance clear in this window: they will pay what the value the player at.
It is the reason they got such a quality defender like Jaka Bijol for just £15million from Udinese. Leeds did not feel that Diarra was worth the £30million and chose not to bid that amount. Joe Donnohue has shared that the end of the transfer window will determine if this approach was worth it or not.
Graham Smyth shares what he thinks Leeds United will do later in the window
Leeds are expected to add a few new faces before pre-season kicks into full gear. Graham Smyth believes the low spending early in the window is to set up some big spending later in the summer:
“I feel like Leeds are caught in this tension of not wanting to overpay.” he said on the Inside Elland Road podcast.
“I think what they’re trying to do is save money for the top end of the pitch where they’re going to have to spend big.
“Spend big on a striker, and possibly a No.10, and probably a winger. Those players cost the earth, generally.
“So, you don’t want your kind of unsexy, athletic, runs around a lot, will tackle a lot, fine on the ball — you don’t want them to cost you £15 million upwards, do you?
“You don’t want to be spending £30 million on a player that’s not really going to be a match-winner for you. Probably not?
Smyth then adds that he wants to see the club make a major signing soon.
“…I feel like they need a bit of a statement soon in terms of a signing. They need someone who will really get people going and get juices flowing.”
How much could the club end up spending this summer?
Leeds’ transfer spend under the 49ers since they took over:
2023/24 – £28million
2024/25 – £31million
2025/26 – £30million (s0 far)
With the club now in the Premier League, the transfer spend is widely expected to hit the £100million provided there are player sales and exits to balance the books. But this summer has been off to a promising start.
